Extend the Life of Your Glasses

Frames should fit straight and level and not slide down your nose. This is particularly important for progressive wearers because movement of the frame can affect the visual performance. Over time, your frames may become out of alignment usually due to general wear and tear. We are more than happy to readjust your frames to bring them back to their best possible fit.

We also offer repairs for damaged frames, whether it’s tightening loose screws, replacing broken parts or adjusting bent frames. To protect your spectacles, we recommend that you always keep them in their case when they are not being used. Where possible avoid putting them in your handbag or pocket without first putting them in your case. This will avoid unnecessary scratching of the lenses and damage to your frame.

To clean your glasses, we advise never to wipe the lenses dry or with a tissue, this can cause serious scratching of the lenses. Where possible, we recommend you rinse the glasses under the tap or use a spectacle lens spray and dry with a microfibre lens cleaning cloth.

If your glasses aren’t fitting quite right or need a little TLC, book in for an adjustment or repair. Regular maintenance keeps your eyewear comfortable, clean and performing at its best.

FAQ's

  • How do I know if my glasses need adjusting?

There are several signs that your glasses may need an adjustment. If your glasses slide down your nose, feel crooked or press too tightly behind your ears, they likely need to be realigned for a better fit. Poorly fitting glasses can cause discomfort, including headaches, pressure marks on the nose and strain behind the ears. If you wear progressive or bifocal lenses, incorrect alignment can interfere with your vision, making it harder to focus at different distances.

Frames can also loosen or become misaligned over time from daily wear, especially if they are frequently taken on and off or stored improperly. Even minor shifts can affect comfort and how well the lenses align with your eyes. Regular adjustments help maintain proper fit and prevent discomfort, keeping your glasses comfortable and effective for everyday use.

  • Can broken glasses be repaired?

Many types of glasses repairs are possible, including tightening screws, replacing nose pads, realigning bent frames and fixing hinges. Specialised adhesives or heat can sometimes restore plastic frames with small cracks or breaks, though more severe damage may require replacing the frame entirely. Metal frames are typically easier to adjust and repair, as they can be bent back into shape without compromising durability.

In some cases, lens replacements are possible if the frames remain intact. Depending on the lens size and fit, it’s also possible to transfer lenses from one frame to another. However, significant structural damage to frames may require a replacement to ensure the glasses are comfortable and functional. Regular maintenance and proper storage in a protective case can help prevent the need for extensive repairs.

  • How do I properly clean my glasses?

The best way to clean your glasses is by rinsing them under lukewarm water to remove dust and particles that could scratch the lenses. Use a drop of mild dish soap (without moisturisers) and gently rub the lenses with your fingers. Rinse thoroughly and dry them with a microfiber cloth to avoid streaks or scratches. Regular cleaning keeps lenses clear and prevents the buildup of oils and dirt that could affect coatings like anti-glare or blue light filters.

Avoid using paper towels, tissues or your shirt to wipe lenses, as these materials can scratch them. Household cleaners, such as window or kitchen sprays, contain chemicals that can damage lens coatings. If you’re on the go, lens cleaning sprays or pre-moistened lens wipes are safe alternatives for quick cleaning. Proper cleaning habits will help maintain your lenses' clarity and extend their lifespan.
